On Saturday, October 25, 2025, the 15th edition of the Mallard Walking Tour will take place, organized by the Liberation Museum Zeeland. This annual event offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of Zeeland during World War II while walking through the beautiful region.

Whether you’re an experienced hiker or simply looking for a relaxing day out, the Mallard Walking Tour has something for everyone. The various routes take you past historical sites while you enjoy the natural beauty and the stories that bring Zeeland to life. This walk is not only a physical challenge but also a way to reflect on the freedom we enjoy today, thanks to the efforts of so many during the war years.

History: Operation Mallard

Operation Mallard was a crucial military action during World War II. Between November 2 and 4, 1944, British troops crossed the Sloe, the tidal area between South Beveland and Walcheren, to establish a bridgehead. This crossing was essential for the liberation of Walcheren and for securing Allied control over the port of Antwerp.

Meaning of “Mallard”
Mallard” was the code name for this operation, in which British troops made a significant contribution to the liberation of Zeeland by establishing a bridgehead on Walcheren.

Walking Routes and Kennedy March

The Mallard Walking Tour offers a suitable route for every walker, whether you’re an experienced hiker seeking a challenge or looking for a relaxed walk.
