Visitor Terms and Conditions
By purchasing an admission ticket, you agree to the general visitor terms and conditions of the Liberation Museum Zeeland. These outline the rights and obligations of both the museum and the visitor. You can also review the visitor terms and conditions at our ticket counter and information desk in the museum café.
The Liberation Museum Zeeland will, within reasonable limits, do everything possible to ensure that the visitor’s experience at the museum complex and the exhibitions and activities organized by the museum proceed in accordance with the visitor’s expectations. The museum will make every effort to minimize any inconvenience or discomfort to the visitor and to ensure the visitor’s safety as much as possible.
General Provisions: Definitions
Article 1.1
Liberation Museum Zeeland: The Liberation Museum Zeeland refers to the Liberation Museum Zeeland Foundation, which maintains and operates the museum complex. Within this organization, officials of the Liberation Museum Zeeland Foundation are employed, who are authorized to act on behalf of this organization.
Article 1.2
Museum Complex: The entirety of spaces (built and unbuilt) that fall under the legal or management authority of the management of the Liberation Museum Zeeland, including, but not limited to, the Entrance Building, exhibition halls, museum buildings, catering facilities, terraces, gardens, and other outdoor areas.
Article 1.3
The Visitor: Anyone who enters the museum complex, with or without a valid admission ticket, for the purpose of study, education, or leisure.
Article 1.4
Admission Ticket: A ticket that grants the visitor access to the museum complex during regular opening hours.
Article 1.5
Entry Pass: An admission ticket (whether or not in combination with a discount card) or a comparable pass (such as a written invitation, voucher, Museum Card, e-ticket) that grants access to specific areas within the museum complex.
Article 1.6
Goods: All goods, including money, monetary values, and securities.
Applicability
Article 2.1
These terms and conditions apply to all visitors of the museum complex.
Article 2.2
These terms and conditions also apply to all natural persons and/or legal entities engaged by the Liberation Museum Zeeland in pursuit of its objectives.
Article 2.3
Deviations from these terms and conditions are only valid if they have been explicitly agreed upon in writing.
Access to the Museum Complex
Article 3.1
The visitor is only entitled to enter the museum complex upon presenting a valid entry pass.
Article 3.2
The visitor will be denied (further) access to the museum complex if it is determined that:
a. The entry pass was not issued by the Liberation Museum Zeeland or an authorized entity recognized by the Liberation Museum Zeeland;
b. The visitor is evidently under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, or similar substances;
c. The visitor is clearly disturbing the peace or intends to do so.
Article 3.3
A pre-purchased admission ticket becomes invalid upon the expiration of the date indicated on the ticket.
Article 3.4
In the museum complex, visitors and their belongings may be subject to (entry) inspection. In this context, the visitor may be asked to cooperate in the inspection of bags and similar items by or on behalf of the staff of the Liberation Museum Zeeland. Visitors who refuse to cooperate with such inspections may be denied access to the museum complex and are not entitled to a refund.
Article 3.5
Visitors are prohibited from bringing objects or substances into the museum complex that, in the judgment of a clearly identifiable official of the Liberation Museum Zeeland, are deemed dangerous. If such items are found during the entry inspection, they may be left at a designated location at the visitor’s own risk, as determined by the Liberation Museum Zeeland.
Objects found during the entry inspection that are prohibited by law will be handed over to the police. The visitor in possession of these items may be detained and turned over to the police. This visitor will also be denied access to the Liberation Museum Zeeland.
Accessibility
Article 4.1
The museum complex is located, among other places, in (historical) buildings with exhibitions and activities spread across various locations, including outdoor areas. The Liberation Museum Zeeland strives to achieve as much integrated accessibility as possible. Both inside and outside the buildings, visitors must take into account circumstances that may affect personal accessibility. Individual conditions and/or weather conditions can have a significant impact on this.
Article 4.2
Visitors are advised to inform themselves about any limitations regarding personal accessibility. In particular, when entering the outdoor museum, consideration should be given to the potential impact of weather conditions.
Article 4.3
Visitors are advised to familiarize themselves with the emergency exits that should be used in the event of an emergency or threat thereof when entering the museum complex. The use of elevators is prohibited in case of an emergency.
Article 4.4
For information about conditions that may affect personal accessibility and options for individual assistance, visitors are advised to contact the information desk in the museum café.
Parking
Article 5.1
The same traffic rules as on public roads apply in the parking area of the Liberation Museum Zeeland. The maximum speed limit on the premises is fifteen kilometers per hour, and traffic from the right has the right of way. If a visitor does not follow the traffic rules and/or the instructions of the Liberation Museum Zeeland staff correctly, the museum is entitled to remove the vehicle from the premises at the visitor’s risk and expense.
Article 5.2
Visitors are advised to properly lock their vehicle, including the windows, and not to leave any valuables inside. In the event of theft or vandalism, the Liberation Museum Zeeland accepts no liability. This also applies if damage is caused by storms, fire, hail, explosions, or other extraordinary circumstances.
Staying in the Museum Complex
Article 6.1
Visitors are only permitted to enter areas that are accessible to the public and not spaces that are closed off to the public.
Article 6.2
Due to potential risks and related safety concerns for staff and visitors, access to a location may be (temporarily) closed, and presentations or events may be adjusted according to the situation at that time.
Article 6.3
In the event of extremely severe weather conditions, as declared by the police or the KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute), the Weather Alarm Protocol of the Liberation Museum Zeeland will be activated, which may lead to a partial or complete evacuation of the museum complex.
Article 6.4
Visitors are required to comply with these General Visitor Terms and Conditions, as well as with the directions and instructions given by clearly identifiable staff members of the Liberation Museum Zeeland. If, in the opinion of the staff of the Liberation Museum Zeeland, a visitor acts in any way contrary to the visitor terms or given directions and instructions, they may be denied further access to the museum complex without the Liberation Museum Zeeland being obligated to compensate for any damages or provide a refund.
Article 6.5
If a visitor repeatedly violates provisions of the General Visitor Terms and Conditions or disregards directions and instructions given by staff, the Liberation Museum Zeeland may deny them access to the museum complex for a certain period of time. Additionally, the Liberation Museum Zeeland is entitled to deny access to any visitor who, during one or more previous visits to the museum complex or other museums, has damaged an object through (gross) negligence and/or intent, or when there is justified concern that the visitor may cause damage in another manner. The Liberation Museum Zeeland may, in any case, subject this visitor to the measures outlined in Article 3.4 during all of their visits. The decision to deny access will be communicated to the visitor without delay, preferably in writing.
Article 6.6
In the event of emergencies, such as the sudden disappearance of an (art) object, a terrorist attack, or other forms of violence, the Liberation Museum Zeeland is entitled to close the doors and then escort visitors out one by one. Visitors may be asked to cooperate in the inspection of bags and other items by or on behalf of the staff of the Liberation Museum Zeeland. Visitors who refuse to cooperate with the inspection will be asked to present identification before leaving the museum complex.
Article 6.7
There is CCTV surveillance in the museum complex. Camera footage is stored in accordance with legal regulations (Personal Data Protection Act) and will be made available to the police if necessary.
Article 6.8
The Liberation Museum Zeeland regularly arranges photo and video recordings within the museum complex. This material may be used for publicity purposes on the website, in brochures, etc. By entering the museum complex, visitors agree to the publication of this material. If a visitor objects to the disclosure of any images in which they are recognizable, they can inform the Liberation Museum Zeeland. The Liberation Museum Zeeland will then make efforts to prevent the publication of such material.
House Rules
Article 7.1
Visitors are prohibited from the following activities within the museum complex:
a. Touching exhibited objects, unless explicitly indicated otherwise;
b. Offering goods of any kind for sale to third parties or providing them free of charge without the express written permission of the management;
c. Disturbing other visitors, including but not limited to obstructing their view of exhibited objects for an extended period or causing noise disturbances;
d. Bringing dogs or other pets inside. Service dogs are permitted without restriction;
e. Using personal transportation devices (such as bicycles, skateboards, waveboards, segways, scooters, and roller skates), with the exception of wheelchairs, strollers, pushchairs, balance bikes, walkers, and other generally accepted aids;
f. Taking photographs, filming, or making audio recordings within the museum complex, unless used solely for private purposes. It is not permitted to use visual or audio material for commercial purposes without the express written consent of the management, which may include additional conditions and the charging of location or other fees;
g. Consuming food or drinks in the exhibition areas.
Article 7.3
For primary and secondary school groups, at least one supervisor must be present for every 10 students. The Liberation Museum Zeeland reserves the right to deny access to groups that do not meet these standards.
Article 7.4
Parents, teachers, and other supervisors are at all times responsible for and accountable for the behavior of the minors, individuals, or groups they bring or accompany.
Article 7.5
At certain locations, special guidelines apply for the youngest visitors and their parents or supervisors. At these locations, children under the age of 12 may only enter under supervision.
Article 7.6
For guided tours, a maximum of 20 people per tour applies.
Lost and Found
Article 8.1
Objects found by visitors in the museum complex can be handed over to a staff member or at the information desk in the Entrance Building or Museum Café.
Article 8.2
If the presumed owner of a found object comes forward, they have the option to either collect the items in person or have them sent by cash on delivery. In both cases, the owner must provide proper identification. In case of any doubt on the part of the Liberation Museum Zeeland regarding the status of the presumed owner, the museum is entitled to request proof of ownership.
Article 8.3
The Liberation Museum Zeeland will make every effort to trace the owner or rightful claimant of a found object. If no request for return has been made by the owner or rightful claimant after three months (or one year for valuable items) of safekeeping by the museum, the museum will act at its discretion and reserves the right to destroy any unclaimed found objects.
Refunds
Article 9.1
The Liberation Museum Zeeland is not obligated to refund the cost of an unused admission ticket.
Article 9.2
The following circumstances will never result in any obligation for the Liberation Museum Zeeland to refund any paid amounts or provide any other compensation to the visitor:
a. The non-display of objects from the Liberation Museum Zeeland collection;
b. The partial closure of the museum complex, including but not limited to, partial closure due to the setup or dismantling of exhibitions; temporary closure of buildings for periodic restoration maintenance or wood treatments;
c. An adjustment to the regular opening hours due to drills related to company emergency response procedures or, in the event of an emergency, a full or partial evacuation of the museum complex deemed necessary by the Liberation Museum Zeeland;
d. Damage, nuisance, or inconvenience caused by other visitors, including but not limited to noise disturbance, inappropriate behavior (including violence), or theft;
e. Nuisance or inconvenience caused by events and maintenance work, including renovations or the (re)arrangement of spaces;
f. Nuisance or inconvenience caused by the malfunctioning of facilities within the museum complex;
g. Denial of access to the museum complex;
h. Loss of the entry pass.
Liability of the Liberation Museum Zeeland
Article 10.1
The visitor’s stay in the museum complex is at their own expense and risk.
Article 10.2
All price quotations, statements, or other information provided by the Liberation Museum Zeeland are not non-binding. The Liberation Museum Zeeland accepts liability for any errors made by the museum itself in price quotations, statements, or other information provided to the visitor. This liability only applies to the museum’s own informational materials that are present within the museum at the time of the claim, or that have been recently distributed by or on behalf of the Liberation Museum Zeeland.
Article 10.3
The Liberation Museum Zeeland is never liable for damages resulting from price quotations, statements, or other forms of information provided to the visitor by third parties.
Article 10.4
The Liberation Museum Zeeland is only liable for damages suffered by the visitor that are a direct result of gross negligence or intent by the Liberation Museum Zeeland or its officials, with the understanding that only those damages are eligible for compensation against which the Liberation Museum Zeeland is insured, or reasonably should have been insured. The liability of the Liberation Museum Zeeland is, among other things, excluded for:
a. Damages resulting from the actions of third parties, including individuals engaged by the Liberation Museum Zeeland and tenants of (spaces within) the building, as well as persons engaged by these third parties;
b. Damages resulting from the failure to follow instructions given by officials of the Liberation Museum Zeeland and from not adhering to generally accepted rules of conduct;
c. Damages caused in any way by other visitors;
d. Damages resulting from the receipt of goods or when goods are deposited, stored, and/or left behind in any manner, anywhere, by anyone, without the Liberation Museum Zeeland charging any fee for it.
Article 10.5
The claim is, in any case, limited to the lower of the following two amounts:
a. The amount paid to the Liberation Museum Zeeland by its insurer for that specific damage case; or
b. The compensation paid by a third party to the Liberation Museum Zeeland for that specific damage case.
Article 10.6
In the event of damage due to death or physical injury, the total liability of the Liberation Museum Zeeland shall in no case exceed the compensation arrangement described in Article 10.5.
Article 10.7
The liability of the Liberation Museum Zeeland for indirect damages, including consequential damages, lost profits or wages, missed savings, etc., is always excluded.
Liability of the Visitor
Article 11.1
The visitor to the museum complex is liable for all direct and indirect damages they cause, whether or not as a result of non-compliance with these Visitor Terms and Conditions, and indemnifies the Liberation Museum Zeeland against claims from third parties in this regard.
Article 11.2
The (original) rightful owner of the entry pass is jointly responsible and liable for any damages caused by the holder of this entry pass.
Article 11.3
Organizations that organize meetings, events, and/or parties in the museum complex are at all times responsible and liable for the behavior of the guests they have invited, without prejudice to the individual responsibility and liability of these guests.
Force Majeure
Article 12.1
Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland shall not be liable for any damage suffered by the visitor as a result of force majeure on the part of Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland. Force majeure is understood to include any foreseeable or unforeseeable circumstance beyond the control of Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland that makes the fulfillment of the agreement temporarily or permanently impossible or burdensome.
Article 12.2
Force majeure also includes, but is not limited to: riots, civil unrest, terrorism, actions by police and/or fire services, strikes, transportation difficulties, fire, and other serious disruptions on the museum complex, adverse weather conditions, and non-functioning public transportation for any reason.
Article 12.3
Such circumstances also include situations involving individuals, services, and/or institutions that the Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland relies on to execute the visitor agreement, as well as anything that is considered force majeure or a suspensive or dissolving condition for the aforementioned parties, as well as any attributable shortcomings of these parties.
Complaints Procedure
Article 13.1
In the event of complaints, visitors can submit them through the Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland website.
Article 13.2
Complaints related to the visitor agreement must be submitted in writing to Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland within 4 weeks of the visit. Complaints submitted after this period will generally not be considered by Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland. The museum will investigate the complaint and aim to address it within 14 working days of receipt. If the investigation is not completed within this timeframe, the complainant will be informed of the status and the estimated time of resolution.
Other Terms and Applicable Law
Article 14.1
The applicability of these General Visitor Terms and Conditions does not affect the potential applicability of other contractual terms and/or regulations of Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland, including but not limited to the Additional Reservation Terms and the Uniform Conditions for the Hospitality Industry.
Article 14.2
Dutch law applies to these General Visitor Terms and Conditions and to the agreement between the visitor and Bevrijdingsmuseum Zeeland.
Final Provision
If one or more of the aforementioned articles are or become invalid, the remaining provisions shall remain valid. In that case, a new provision that is as similar as possible in content, scope, and/or purpose to the invalid provision shall replace the invalid provision.
